Study Reveals Insights on an IoT Positioning Framework

Ericsson, a leader in electrical safety products, has published a report titled, “Exploring IoT Strategies.” According to the study, Ericsson selected ten of the world’s fastest-growing mobile broadband service providers and ten IoT leaders based on their number of connections, offering and scaled ambition and interviewed them to understand how they view the IoT market and how they are strategically positioning themselves within the landscape.

With predictions that the number of connected Internet of Things (IoT) devices will jump 12 percent on average annually, based on analysis from IHS, the expected number of devices in 2030 is 125 billion. The Ericsson report shares insights on how telecom service providers are aiming to understand the clearest path to IoT revenue and the array of opportunities it presents.

In the downable report, Ericsson details three key study findings. The first listed describes new cellular IoT technologies, Cat-M1 and NB-IoT as game changers. Another key finding is revenue growth is confirmed as the key driver for market entry and yet, 70% of intervieews do not have a well-defined strategy. While there are other additional study findings, the last key finding is that 80% of interviewees plan to move up the value chain through sub-roles within the foundational network and connectively business.
